A suspicious package is removed

A suspicious package at the Social Security office brought the Oregon State Police bomb squad down from Hermiston. Dressed in protective green armour, the officer looked like an oversized pond turtle.

What makes a person decide to work on a bomb squad? It seems like such a crazy job, and obviously dangerous.

This was a “hurry up and wait” situation, I spent most of my time waiting across the street with a telephoto lens as the squad set up their truck and scanned the package remotely. They couldn’t tell enough to be sure it was safe, so they decided to remove it and detonate it in a nearby alley.

After all the buildup, the package looked pretty tiny, especially when compared to the big green turtle…turns out it contained an electronic flower.

A pond turtle? A POND turtle??? Snork, I think you’re RIGHT!!!

I watched the bomb squad blow up what turned out to be a thermos full of coffee once. Pretty amazing.

I LOVED the description of the man’s uniform–he could be one of those mutant ninja turtles, even!!!

What an interesting story–one wonders who on earth would have left an electronic flower behind–and dang! What IS an electronic flower???

lol I really enjoyed this post, Bro!
