Overpassing fish

Aluminum fish

Aluminum fish surf steel waves above Interstate 84 in The Dalles, Oregon. December, 2010. by Mark B. Gibson/The Dalles Chronicle

As snow melts and thins on cliffs overlooking the Columbia River, aluminum fish on an Interstate 84 overpass in The Dalles appear to struggle upstream through steel waves Thursday evening, Dec. 24.
This happens to be a great example of imperfect photography… I didn’t have my tripod and couldn’t get a closer angle so I hand-held the camera with a long lens. Details are therefore blurred, but such “defects” are not visible except in enlargements. So the picture is “good enough for newsprint,” and even better for the world wide web.

I’ve always loved this overpass – but have never even tried to stop and take a picture of it!

Merry Christmas to you and your family, dear brother. Wish you were here!

I love those fish–when we drive through, if there’s light enough, I always try to catch those fish as we drive the highway! Your picture turned out really well under the circumstances!!!

I see this was posted around Christmas–has it really been that long since I visited your wonderful blog? Well..never again.

I have been missing you big time. ((hugs))
